Children’s and Family Programs


Playing with the trains!Children’s programs at the Avon Grove Library are held in the Children’s Activity Room, just beyond the elevator in the lobby and are free unless otherwise noted. Most programs do not require registration.  Children under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.


Mondays:

Play Time

Monday, 12:30 – 3:00 PM

The Children’s Activity Room will be open for families with preschool children to drop in and play!

Monday afternoon at 4 PM

STEM programs for Kindergarten through 4th grade students. Registration is required for these free STEM programs, limit 15 participants.


Tuesdays:

Preschool STEM

Second & Fourth Tuesday of the month, 1 – 3 PM

Families with children age 3 and up, drop in for STEM play. (Projects may have small parts and be inappropriate for younger children.) No registration needed for this free program. No program primary election day, April 26th.


Tuesday Science

Second Tuesday of the month at 6 PM

March 8th, 6 pm – Maker Space

April 12th, 6pm – Glitter Slime

May 10th, 6 PM – Rockets

STEM programs for Kindergarten through 4th grade students. Registration is required for these free STEM programs, limit 15 participants.


Egg Dye

Tuesday, March 22, 6:30 – 7:30 PM

Please bring your own hard-boiled eggs to dye!
All ages welcome for this free family event, no registration required.


Family Bingo

Tuesday May 24, 6:30 – 7:30 PM

Bring a nonperishable food donation for the local food pantry.  Family Fun with prizes and snacks for all ages, no registration required.


Thursdays:

Lego Club

1st and 3rd Thursday, 4:30 – 5:30 PM

We provide the Legos, you provide the imagination. Build a creation, by yourself or in a group. Display it in the library until the next meeting, when we will dismantle it and make something new! Children must be accompanied by an adult. Free program for all ages, held in the Community Room. No registration needed.


Saturdays:

Build a Birdhouse

Saturday, March 5, 1 PM

(A Longwood Gardens Community Read Event)

Build a birdhouse with your family! (Open to families with children in 2nd grade & over, accompanied by a parent). Limit 8 families, $5 materials fee due at the time of registration.


Book Walk

Saturday, May 7, 1 – 2 PM  at Goddard Park

We’ll meet at the pavilion by the playground for crafts, ecology and stories. No registration needed.


GeoTrax Build and Play

First Saturday of the month, 1 – 3 PM

All aboard for fun, when we bring out the library’s new collection of GeoTrax trains! Use tracks, buildings, and other accessories to create awesome setups. Then enjoy open playtime with your work! For ages 3 and up, held in the Community Room. No registration needed.


Open for Construction

April 9 & May 14  9:30 – 11:30 AM

Bring your imagination, we will provide the building sets in this open ended program for Pre-K through 3rd grade. Drop in any time between 9:30 and 11:30.


Crafternoon

Second Saturday of the month at 12:30 PM

March 12th – Beading Necklaces

April 9th—Dried Bean Mosaics

May 14—Painted Tiny Flower Pots

Craft and create at the library!  Free program for school age children, no registration required.


Souper Saturdays

Snow Day Adventures – January 16th, 11 AM

Valentine’s Day Fun – February 13th, 11 AM

Dr. Seuss-a-bration! – March 19th, 11 AM

Come for stories, stay for soup! Enjoy stories, crafts, and a tasty lunch!  Program is free and open to children 2 – 10 years of age, no registration required.


Books and Breakfast

Third Saturday of the month at 10 AM

May 21—Undersea Adventure

Come for stories, stay for fun! Enjoy stories, crafts, and a delicious breakfast! Program is free and open to children 2 – 10 years of age, no registration required.


Lego Block Party

Fourth Saturday of the month, 1:30 – 2:30 PM

Each session we will choose a theme and challenge you, by yourself or in a group, to build a unique creation in one hour. We’ll take a photo of your design and display photos in the library and/or on our social media. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Free program for all ages, held in the Community Room. No registration needed.

Fourth Saturday of the month, 11 AM – noon

Read aloud to therapy dog “Bodie” with handler, Diane. Provides a supportive, fun way to improve library skills and learn to enjoy reading. Registration will be required for 10-minute period per child. Free Program


BAD WEATHER POLICY: Morning Programs are cancelled if the Avon Grove School District has a delayed opening or is closed. Afternoon or Evening Programs are cancelled if the schools are closed or close early. Updated cancellations will be posted in the Library’s Blog and on our Facebook Page.
