Children’s and Family Programs


Children’s programs at the Avon Grove Library are held in the Children’s Activity Room, just beyond the elevator in the lobby and are free unless otherwise noted. Most programs do not require registration.  Children under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Super Science

Monday afternoon at 4 PM

May 23, 4 PM – Nature Prints

STEM programs for Kindergarten through 4th grade students. Registration is required for these free STEM programs, limit 15 participants.


Preschool STEM

May 24, 1 – 3 PM

Families with children age 3 and up, drop in for STEM play. (Projects may have small parts and be inappropriate for younger children.) No registration needed for this free program. No program primary election day, April 26th.


Family BingoBingo game

Tuesday May 24, 6:30 – 7:30 PM

Bring a nonperishable food donation for the local food pantry.  Family Fun with prizes and snacks for all ages, no registration required.

Saturday, June 11, 9:30 AM-1 PM

Summer at the Avon Grove Library will start with the Kick-off Party, with snacks, prizes, crafts and fun activities.  Come see the free one-hour ‘Magicomedy’ show with the Gustafsons.  We will have 2 magic shows, 10 AM and noon. Learn more about Summer Reading.


Family Yo-yo Day

Saturday, June 25th, 11 AM at Pennock Bridge Campus

Meet champion yo-yo performers who will amaze you with their tricks and skills at a free yo-yo show! Want to learn basic yo-yo skills? Bring a yo-yo and join the yo-yo clinic after the show.  Enjoy crafts and fun activities.


Biker (1)Bike Parade

Saturday, July 30th, 9:30 AM at Goddard Park

Bring your bike and use the library’s materials to decorate your bike.  Then, join us for a bike parade around the park.  Afterwards, listen to a fun and informative bike safety program.


Summer Reading CelebrationMom Dance

Saturday, August 13, 10 AM – noon

Celebrate the completion of the Summer Reading Program. Celebrate the completion of the Summer Reading Program with free games, crafts, activities, and snacks.  Bring your game board to receive extra tickets. Two shows by Linda Bunting, children’s music performer.


GeoTrax Build and Play

First Saturday of the month, 1-3 PM

All aboard for fun, when we bring out the library’s new collection of GeoTrax trains! Use tracks, buildings, and other accessories to create awesome setups. Then enjoy open playtime with your work! For ages 3 and up, held in the Community Room. No registration needed.

Come for stories, stay for fun! Enjoy stories, crafts, and a tasty breakfast! Program is free and open to children 2 – 10 years of age, no registration required.


Lego Block Party

Fourth Saturday of the month, 1:30 – 2:30 PM

Each session we will choose a theme and challenge you, by yourself or in a group, to build a unique creation in one hour. We’ll take a photo of your design and display photos in the library and/or on our social media. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Free program for all ages, held in the Community Room. No registration needed.

Read aloud to therapy dog “Bodie” with handler, Diane. Provides a supportive, fun way to improve library skills and learn to enjoy reading. Registration will be required for 10-minute period per child. Free Program

We will have Open Play available in the Activity Room from 9:30 AM-3 PM each day for parents and siblings, regular programming will be cancelled.

Read Aloud Book Club

Tuesdays, June 21st, July 5th and 19th, August 2nd and 16th, 2:30-3:30 PM

Practice your reading, discover new books, and make friends as you read your way through a new book every time.  Books of varying reading levels will be available to read.  This is a free program open to children in 1st-5th grade.  Registration is required.

Preschoolers and their caregivers can enjoy fun alphabet stories, followed by an alphabet inspired lunch that the kids will help create, and a fun craft!

School Aged Children – Pizza Time!

School aged children can enjoy pizza stories, followed by a make your own pizza lunch, and a fun pizza inspired craft!

Family Activity – Healthy Eating Cook-Off

Check out one of our many cookbooks or use a family favorite healthy recipe to create a dish for our potluck.  Bring in your healthy dish, labeled with all ingredients, and enjoy a fun potluck lunch!  Librarians will judge the contest, and everyone will come away a winner!


Thursdays:

1st and 3rd Thursday, 4:30-5:30 PM

We provide the Legos, you provide the imagination. Build a creation, by yourself or in a group. Display it in the library until the next meeting, when we will dismantle it and make something new! Children must be accompanied by an adult. Free program for all ages, held in the Community Room. No registration needed.

This year’s show,  The Chef Shapes Up, uses music, humor, science and math to show how healthier eating and 60 minutes of exercise a day will help kids feel better, think better, and live a long and happy life. Enjoy lots of great children’s books, and singing along with the Chef!

Using a shoe box, dowels, and clothes pins, you can create your very own Foosball table that you can use to play with your friends.  Free program, registration required.

BAD WEATHER POLICY: Morning Programs are cancelled if the Avon Grove School District has a delayed opening or is closed. Afternoon or Evening Programs are cancelled if the schools are closed or close early. Updated cancellations will be posted in the Library’s Blog and on our Facebook Page.
