Welcome to our Teen Center webpage where you’ll find information and resources tailored especially for teenagers! We invite you to stop by the library to check out our young adult section. We have the classics you’ll need for school as well as a good selection of teen bestsellers, non-fiction books, biographies, and reference material. You’ll also find the latest DVD movies and our public computer center that offers free internet access. Check out the internet links below for help with homework and some sites just for fun!

CREATE A BUG CONTEST
FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!
Keep yourself "buzzy," (busy), with our CREATE A BUG CONTEST. Here's how...
- Each participant makes a bug using the collection of craft materials found in a bag you can pick up at the library during business hours, or at any childrens/teen program.
- This contest is for patrons age 3 and up. Families may enter as a team.
- Each participant may make only one bug. You may add any items of your choice to the materials in your bag. Painting, coloring and markers are also allowed.
All creations should be returned to the library no later than July 18th.
Voting will take place at the library from July 21-31. Voting will be done by patrons.
Winners announced on August 1.
Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

- Best Use of Materials
- Creepiest Bug
- Biggest Pest
- Most Unusual
- More Realistic
- Cutest Bug

Book Trailer Podcasting

Create a book trailer podcast! Plan, record, edit, add music and publish a podcast to the Web or save on your mp3 player. Students are encouraged to attend both sessions.

Put your face on a postage stamp, create a special message on a road sign, or write your name on a virtual sandy beach. Use Imagechef.com to create unique images with your thoughts and pictures!
Wednesday July 23 (advanced)

For Grades middle and high school
Basic plus learn tips for using them with wikis and blogs which are being used at a growing rate in high school and post secondary academic worlds. They are the wave of the future in the learning community. Image Generators make great visuals for social networking sites, blogs, and wikis, to give your contributions some zing!
Top Ten Playlist
Wednesday July 9

Ages 14 and up
Create a wiki featuring the top ten songs you think everyone should know. Learn how to find and post lyrics, add information and photos to support your top ten playlist!
Scrapbooking
Friday July 18

Ages 10 and up
Using online resources and actual craft materials, participants will create their own scrapbook page.

Learn how to post messages, comment, add photos and even load multimedia content to an online blog.

Knockout Online Bullying with Powerpoint

Once we have our techniques down, we will discuss and create a Powerpoint presentation on how to recognize and stop online bullying. Make your own Powerpoint and publish it on a MySpace page!

Get ready for a Sizzling Summer at the Avon Grove Library! Enjoy a variety of events throughout summer 2008, including:
Family Baseball Night
Meet the Philadelphia Force, women’s professional softball team and their Mascot on Tuesday June 24, 5-8:00pm. Stories! Crafts! Refreshments! Register at the library. Free program, all children must be accompanied by an adult.
Family Fun: Scavenger Hunt
Search the Avon Grove Library for clues on Tuesday July 1, 6-8:00pm. Register at library. Free program. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Teen Murder Mystery Game
If you're in grade 7 and up, join us at the Avon Grove Library for a "spook-tacular" murder mystery adventure on Wednesday July 30, 7:30-11pm! Take part in the game and be entertained by guest storyteller Bill Woods. Enjoy pizza with your friends and make crafts. What else? It's a mystery so you'll just have to come to the library to find out! Free teen T-shirts. $10 non-refundable material fee. Register in person at the library.
Basket Making
Learn the art of basket making on Wednesday June 25, 1:30-3:30pm or July 23, 4-6:00pm. For ages 10 and up. Register at the library. $5/person nonrefundable material fee. Adult must remain in library during program.
Sewing Workshops
Stitch up a clever creation in the Avon Grove Library’s Sewing Workshops on July 15 to 17! Age-appropriate projects are designed for two groups. From 1:00-2:30pm, those age 9 and up will make pillowcases. From 3:00-4:30pm, those age 12 and up will make pillows. All materials provided. $10 non-refundable material fee. Register in person at the library. Limit 12/ per class. Adult must remain in library during program.
Bird House Woodworking Workshop
Fun family activity! Come and join us at the Avon Grove Library Tuesday July 8 or Wednesday August 6 to construct your very own bird house. $10 non-refundable material fee. Register in person at the library. Limit 9/per class. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
First Aid and CPR for Teens and Adults
For ages 12 and up, learn the vital skills of first aid and CPR. Wednesday July 9 or Tuesday August 5. 4-8:00pm. Register at the library. $45/per person for certification. ICA and OSHA approved.
Teens and Adults: Make Beaded Jewelry
Come to the Avon Grove Library Thursday July 17 and "bead-dazzle" your family and friends with jewelry you design! $10 non-refundable material fee. Register in person at the library. Limit 15/per class.

COMMUNITY KNITTING PROJECT
We are working on a blanket to be donated to a disabled veteran in honor of his/her service to all of us.
If you would like to knit a square, please take a pattern and ball of yarn (available at the Circulation Desk).
If you would like to help, but don't knit, please add a ball of red, white or blue yarn to the basket at the Desk.
ADOPT A PLATOON
Avon Grove Library is one of several drop off sites for “Adopt-a-Platoon,” sponsored by the West Grove-Avondale Rotary Club.
Help our troops stationed in Iraq by donating items such as: pre-paid phone cards, magazines (Sports Illustrated, Men’s Health), stationery paper, toiletries, hand sanitizer, boot socks (black or OD green), jerky, power bars, dried fruit, or pre-packaged cheese and crackers. A complete list is available, posted next to the drop off boxes placed in the main library.
These are both on-going events.

Math, science, social studies and English tutors for grades 4-12 are available everyday from 4pm – 10pm. En Espanol available Sunday through Thursday from 4pm - 10pm.
