Avon Grove Library invites you to participate in our 2024 Summer Reading Program, which includes reading, activities, programs, and prizes for all ages, from birth through adults. This year's theme for Summer Reading is
Adventure Begins at Your Library, which focuses on community, kindness, and friendship.

We will have some books on display in the library focused on this year's theme. In addition to print books and magazines, eBooks, eMagazines, and eAudiobooks, are also welcomed and encouraged for reading. Download the Libby app to your device and use your library card to access those digital resources.
Keep reading for information on how to participate in the summer reading program and to learn about some fun events we'll be offering this summer!

SUMMER READING PROGRAM

The Summer Reading program is divided into four different age groups with activities that you can complete on your own. Tickets earned for reading throughout the summer will be used to raffle Grand Prize Baskets in the following age groups: Babies/Toddlers/Preschool; Kindergarten – 2nd grades, 3rd grade-5th grade, Teen, and Adult for a total of 5 baskets.
Grand Prize Winners will be drawn and announced on Monday, August 5th.

Preschool

Toddlers, preschool-age children, and even babies can adopt their own stuffed cat or dog and earn prizes by completing fun activities throughout the summer, such as:
  • Checking out a library book
  • Singing the ABCs
  • Reading a book about community helpers, or friendship
  • Helping to clean up, or
  • Attending a library program

Elementary

Avon Grove Library is again offering the Patch Power program for kids in grades K-5! Elementary students can collect all 8 patches, one per week, each with a different theme. Each patch is earned by completing three activities on the Patch card. We will offer a weekly library program centered on that week's patch and theme for those interested. Attending the program counts as one of the three activities required to earn that patch. Patch themes include:
  • Mythic Hero
  • Zookeeper
  • Plundering Pirates
  • Crafty Creator
  • ...and more!
Participants will receive a clip to hold their patches and, at the end of the summer, will receive a banner or a tote bag to display their patches.

Teen & Adult

Who says summer reading is just for kids?! Teens and adults can read and complete activities throughout the summer to earn raffle tickets toward a grand prize! Some examples of the activities are:
  • Visiting a local park
  • Supporting a local business
  • Reading a book to a child
  • Listening to an audiobook
  • Watching a movie or series based on a book
Participants will receive a reading journal for signing up.
